Piedmont Pathology Associates, Inc.
Piedmont Pathology Associates is the oldest, most technically sophisticated, and respected pathology practice in the Piedmont region of North Carolina.
Established in 1967 by Dr Guy J Guarino, Piedmont Pathology became the first subspecialty trained and board certified pathology group serving the Hickory, Lincolnton and Unifour region.
Since then we have grown into a truly regional pathology network serving patients from the entire Western North Carolina and Piedmont regions.
Our physicians have had the most comprehensive training and have been recruited from the finest pathology programs including: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Duke University Medical Center, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the University of North Carolina Medical Center at Chapel Hill.
We provide cutting edge diagnostic services to patients in rural and underserved regions of Western North Carolina as well as larger metropolitan areas.
There are eight community hospitals and regional medical centers in the Piedmont Pathology network.
Our couriers serve rural medical practices extending from the Virginia-Tennessee border to the north, all the way to the South Carolina border.
We offer a full range of Diagnostic Anatomic Pathology services including Diagnostic Immunohistochemistry, Molecular and Cytology services.
We also serve as a regional reference laboratory for Diagnostic Immunohistochemistry and Molecular services.
Our medical staff has a combined experience of over 230 years of clinical practice and represents subspecialty expertise, training or certification in Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Gynecologic and Cervical Pathology, Dermatopathology, Hematopathology and Surgical Pathology.
All of our medical staff is double board certified in Clinical Pathology as well as Anatomic Pathology with expertise in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Hematology, Chemistry and Body Fluid Analysis.
Our medical staff facilitates the highest levels of laboratory competence and certification in each of our network hospitals.
Piedmont Pathology Laboratory has achieved the highest accreditation standards set by the College of American Pathologists.
In addition, our medical staff serves as inspectors for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) to evaluate the competence of other hospitals and private laboratories to determine their qualifications for CLIA and CAP certification.
Our interest in the continuum of quality care for our patients, and physician clients, has led us to establish a regional electronic medical record for pathology which allows us to, as a matter of routine, correlate previous and current Cytologic and Surgical Pathology samples.
The regions served by Piedmont Pathology have been identified as having one of the lowest rates of invasive cervical cancer in the nation.
We have been invited to present our PCR data regarding the most commonly identified HPV serotypes in our practice to the North Carolina Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Our commitment to quality patient care and rapid reporting is exemplified by our 95 percent 48 hour reporting schedule.
Let us show you the difference Piedmont Pathology can make for your patients.
